Red Metal Mining (RMM) is a multi-disciplined project engineering house, diverse in the specialized design for mining and associated industries. We are the sole appointed agent and supplier in sub-Saharan Africa for SGB – a leading German-based manufacturer of cast resin dry-type transformers. With production starting in the late 1970’s, SGB was one of the first cast resin transformer manufacturers in the world. As a result of its unique design and our custom designed housing, this transformer is set apart from other dry-type transformers in terms of superior quality, technology, reliability, and safety.

RMM designs and supplies compact underground cast resin mini substations, which house the SGB cast resin transformer. We have specifically designed the mini substation to fit underground in a man winder cage, and to be suitable for above surface usage. As a result of its design, cast resin transformers are not safe to touch. In order to provide protection for transformers against environmental influences, and to prevent people from coming into contact with a live transformer, RMM offers standard enclosures rated IP21-IP55 and optionally modified enclosures with cooling systems providing a long-term feasible cost-saving solution.

RMM designs in house to the clients’ specifications using the latest software – Solidworks 3D(mechanical) and E-PLAN(electrical) and assigns a Project Manager as a single contact point to interface with the client and the relevant RMM Team Engineers.
